Sheryl is Famous
This coming Saturday in between the LDS General Conference sessions you can see my roommate, friend and bridesmaid Sheryl Garner on TV. The church did a Mormon.org video about her, they are working on doing a commercial about her because they loved her first segment so much (I haven't seen either, and I'm dying!) which will air on TV sometime in the future, and then Mormon TV Times skyped an interview with her. I believe her interview with Mormon TV times and the Mormon.org feature will be shown. She said she's not thrilled about the interview because she wasn't aware of the questions, but I know she did great. She teaches in DC for one of the lowest performing school districts in the US (maybe it's the lowest, I can't remember now).

Crib Tent Drama and more Michaelisms
Michael's crib tent zipper got broken awhile ago, so I took it down. Instead of buying a new one, I've been trying to get him to go to sleep without one; however, Michael really misses his crib tent and tries to get me to recreate it by draping a blanket over his entire crib. Just now as I was putting him down for a nap, I draped a blanket over his crib and he was very happy. 10 minutes later I heard some noise in there, and so I went to check and his blanket had fallen. He was crying and told me he wanted me to make him a new crib tent. I tucked him back in, and put the blanket back. This is what he said:
Michael: Mommy, thank you so much, that makes me very happy.
Me: You're welcome, I love you, now go to bed.
Michael: Mom, I'm so proud of you for doing the right thing.
Yesterday morning as I was getting the boys ready for church Michael said, "Mom, is Preston going to nursery today?" I said, yes, he said "good, I'm going with him to nursery, I'm not going to primary."
Today Michael's cousins were playing over, and at the end, his cousin Blake came down with some red marks on his face, we of course knew that Michael had done it. I asked him why he did that to Blake's face and he told me because he was a tiger and Blake was trying to get in his cage. (Michael and his other cousin were playing under his crib).
I would love to tell you funny things that Preston says, but the kid still does not talk. What in the world? He will say Bob (our neighbor), bye, bye, uh-oh, and of course Mommy and Daddy, but that's about it. Michael was talking in complete sentences, so this is all a little weird to me, but I guess the good news is, he's not talking back to me yet.

The Boys
Michael says so many hilarious things. Here are a couple...
Yesterday Kyle was on the phone upstairs and I was downstairs. Michael came into the kitchen and I asked who his dad was talking to, and he said, "he's talking to his dudes."
For the past year of Michael's life, he pretty much refuses to wear anything at home unless it's basketball shorts and a white t-shirt. It is quite the uphill battle, so I've just given in. Last night I was giving Michael his pajama options, and I said, do you want to be a tiger, a striped man, a dinosaur, etc. He grabbed his white t-shirt and basketball shorts and said, "No, I wanna be a Daddy!" He is always telling me, he wants to wear his daddy clothes.
Whenever I ask Michael to do something his response is always, a very polite, "no thanks." Michael will you put your clothes away? "No thanks." Michael, eat your dinner, "No thanks." Michael, say the prayer, "no thanks." Not quite the polite response we're going for!
His favorite thing to say, and my least favorite thing for him to say is, "I'm in charge." He says it ALL the time to me when I tell him no about something, and especially when he wants his way. He even tells Preston, "Preppy, I'm in charge, now go to time-out." Sure, Michael. Below is a picture of Preston in timeout, as you can tell by the look on his face, he's really remorseful, ha...he will actually sit there without crying. Opposite of his brother.
Preston is starting to be a little stinker himself. He still pretty much refuses to talk, but of course he understands everything and knows how to communicate without opening his mouth. He got hurt while the missionaries were at our house the other night, and I was busy cooking, so one of the missionaries was consoling him and Preston was laying his head on his shoulder. Pretty soon Preston perked up and was now wrestling with him, and then next thing we know, the missionary is yelping because Preston bit his shoulder. Whoops. I think he forgave him pretty fast because Preston did the saddest pouty lip when I disciplined him. He said he hasn't been bit by a dog on his mission, but now he can say he's been bit by a baby.
A couple of days ago I was watching a friends children and she came to pick them up. We were chatting by the front door for a couple of minutes. After she left, I went upstairs to find Preston's head covered in Vaseline. I thought, wow, what a mess, let's get him in the tub and shampoo his hair. Not so easy. Shampoo and soap did not cut it. I think it made it worst. I googled how to get it out, and I found baby oil and eggs. Baby oil didn't work for the amount he had in there, so I cracked two eggs and rubbed them into his hair. Worked like a champ. Michael and his cousin Blake were trying to figure out why I was cracking eggs on Preston's head! Preston had a great mohawk for two days thanks to the oil.
This afternoon for lunch Michael dropped his fork, and next thing I know, he's eating with his play scissors. It was pretty funny. Does that make him ingenious?

Our Not So Great Start
This is a journal post, probably very typical for all young mom's, so feel free to skip!
Today didn't start off so great. Maybe because for the second day in a row I had to take the boys to the doctor. Yesterday for a follow up from their surgeries and today Michael had a well-child checkup. Neither of the boys cooperated today. They were both upset to be leaving the house without breakfast, but I had nothing to offer them for breakfast. We are not a McDonald's family, but since they had an appointment first thing, and I had no groceries since we were out of town for 10 days, and I had yet to go the store, we had to settle on an Egg McMuffin. Gross. After that I had to hurry and get gas because my tank was on empty.
We made it just in time for their doctor appointment, but as soon as we pulled in, Michael kept telling me he wanted to go to his boy doctor not the girl doctor (his ENT is a fun guy, and the office is kid friendly). Preston did not want to stay in the room and he was throwing a fit to get out the ENTIRE time. The nurse was not impressed with my boys running around the office, but it was impossible to hold on to one, talk to the doctor, and try to keep track of the other one. Michael was not happy when he found out he had to get "shocked" also known as immunizations. The nurse did not do a good job of prepping him. She pretty much just stuck him without explaining what she was doing. Not a good idea. After we were done, I felt like I needed a deep tissue massage. We spend way too much time at the doctor's office, but I'm hoping with ear tubes in and adenoids out, we won't have to frequent as often. The good news is, Michael is not in the 5 percentile for weight like he was during his allergy period. He is now in the 35th percentile for weight and the 55 percentile for height.
I had to take the boys to Costco because as I mentioned we were clear out of groceries. I knew I needed to make it quick. The boys did okay and we survived. I had to go get gas because I only filled up half way earlier since gas was so pricey. Of course as I'm pumping Michael is crying and screaming that he has to go potty. So I hurry and get him out of his car seat and take him to the rocks to go potty, only to find out he had already gone potty. To his credit it was his first "public" accident. Needless to say, we didn't go to Winco as I had planned.
Can you say, nap time?
