My Prophet

As a little girl, when it was my birthday and I would blow the candles out on my cake, I would always make a wish that I could meet the prophet. This went on for years. Living far away from Salt Lake City, I knew the chances of me meeting a prophet were pretty slim, but each year I still held out hope.

In the summer of 1997 my family took a trip down to Lake Powell with some family friends. While we were there, I told the group about my yearly birthday wish. I hadn't ever told anyone, and I'm still not sure why I told them, seeing as how my birthday was long past. After we went to Lake Powell, we had tickets for a play at Tuacahn, which is an outdoor theater venue, not affiliated with the church. They don't allow cameras inside the theater, and even checked our bags to make sure we didn't have any.

Before the play started, my mom was talking to some missionaries who said they heard President Hinckley might be in attendance. He was supposed to come on the opening night, but it was rained out. We weren't sure if it was just a rumor, or if he was really going to be there. We took our seats towards the bottom, and shortly after noticed a commotion towards the top. Sure enough, there was President Hinckley and his entourage of family and security guards. We couldn't believe it! We watched to see where he was going to be seated. They seated him two rows behind us. I immediately started crying. Security allowed some of us sitting near him to shake his hand....my wish had come true! He and his wife were extremely kind, and I was very overwhelmed. We took our seats, and mine was right in front of his, and they didn't have anyone sitting in the seats between us. My dad, remembering my wish, asked me if I had told him my story, and I said that I hadn't. My sister had accidentally left her camera in her backpack, so my dad decided to go up, tell President Hinckley my wish, and ask if I could get my picture taken with him. President Hinckley, said "of course, have her come up here." So I climbed over the seats to where he was at. He re-shook my hand, gave me a hug, and smiled for the photo op. He asked me a few questions, of which I can't remember, but what I do remember is how genuinely sweet and caring he was.

I LOVE this picture for many reasons (and no, not because of my stylish bangs). When I scanned the picture, it cut off the bottom part where he has a baseball cap resting on his knee. I love his sweet wife sitting there just smiling. She is so adorable. I also love that everyone around us is oblivious to what is going on.

This week, I'm going to try and "be a little better," as President Hinckley would say. Here is one of my favorite quotes of his that I've read a few different places this week.

"I would enjoy sitting in a rocker ... listening to soft music and contemplating the things of the universe, But such activity offers no challenge and makes no contribution."

Laundry Day

Talk about a room with a view! This place gives a whole new meaning to "daylight basement." Every room in our house, looks out to this. Aren't we so lucky? I count my blessings every day.

Right now we are renting a mother-in-law apartment from some good friends of ours. The apartment has almost every convenience (including central-vac!).....except for a washer and dryer. In order to not impose on our friends/landlords, I do laundry once a week while she is at the temple. Well last week the temple was closed and so I didn't get a chance to have my laundry day as normal, so things have piled up to say the least.

Last night we were at my favorite store, TJ Maxx, and I found this outfit. As soon as I showed it to the hubby he said, we're getting that! You have to know that he won't even spend $15 on a pair of pants for himself, so when he was willing to drop the $19.99 for this outfit, I was a little surprised to say the least. He said it was deal because it was three pieces, which is his way of justifying such a purchase. I bought the 24 months size so that he could be walking when he wears it. While I was at Enrichment, he decided to play dress up and have a photo shoot. Here's one of the shots from the shoot. Glad I'm not the only one who likes to play dress up with our son.

Cold Winter Days = Nothing Blog Worthy

Man it's cold outside! I've got two space heaters on, the fire place cranked up, and I'm still cold. The little guy is tucked warm in his bed right now, and for a minute (okay maybe a second) I thought of waking him up to snuggle, then I remembered my baby doesn't snuggle, he wiggles. I haven't been able to think of anything to blog about all week, and I still can't think of anything, but here I go anyways....

I was assigned new Visiting Teachers this past month, and for the first time ever, I took them up on "let us know if there is anything we can do for you," offer. Lucky for me, one of these ladies is a talented interior decorator, and she came yesterday to help me with my "challenging" living area. It looks so much better in here...I'll post pics later, once everything is finished. It's amazing what a little rearranging can do for a room!

My Grandma C. came to visit us this week...we sure do love her and are glad we live so close!

Daddy came home for a quick lunch; the baby woke up just in time for his dad to hold him before he left. Our little guy is a major puker. He throws up ALL day long, it's so annoying!!!! Well 99% of the time it lands on me, but it happened to land on the hubby's pants right before he was leaving. Oops!I had to quickly iron some new kakis for him. As you can see, I couldn't pass up on a photo opportunity.

Hangin' it up

Well the time has FINALLY come, and after 3.5 years of working for corporate America, I am officially unattached (besides that nice COBRA bill we'll be paying till the hubby's benefits kick in). Well, I do still have their laptop, but I'm pretty sure they'll want it back. Many things happened over those 3.5 years; I even survived two major layoffs. I told the boss wo-man that I wouldn't be coming back to work after maternity leave, unless she let me work from home. Let's just say, she wasn't happy. Watcha gonna do? I don't feel bad, not even one little bit, especially since they treated me very badly right before I left for maternity leave, and I even had to pay them to go on maternity leave...figure that?! What is this, the early 1900's? Here they are trying to compete in the same sector as Google, Yahoo, and MSN and they don't offer maternity leave. Good luck growing your business boys. Maybe that's one of the many reasons why the stock is at an all time LOW, which is too bad since I have 90 days to cash in. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Although there were some rough times with my job, I definitely had some MAJOR perks which outweighed the bad. Such as an unlimited budget for myself and my clients on the road. SO, when it came to eating out and staying in hotels in some of the biggest cities in America...I went all out. It was just a little over 4 months ago that I was staying here, eating here (One of Shaq's favorite..mine too!), and shopping here. Trust me, I could go on, but I'll spare you. One of the best perks was that me and the husband, were able to go on a few amazing trips together, and we only had to buy one plane ticket.

It was fun while it lasted, but now I'm on to bigger and better (I'll just keep telling myself that, as I make dinner every night, and wipe spit up off myself). Although, I'm so glad that I was able to "live it up" for awhile, I wouldn't trade being home with my family for a thing. It's the best job I'll ever have, with the best benefits!
